Grandma Mitchell's Obituary

Velma Mitchell

Our loving mother has gone on to join her beloved husband and will be greatly missed by all her family and those who knew her. Velma Anderson Mitchell, 92, of Kingston, passed away August 18, 2014 in Cedar City with many of her family gathered around her bedside. She was born July 11, 1922, in Kingston to James Kirkman and Violet Susanna Syrett Anderson. She married Cloyd Mitchell, March 21, 1941 in Kingston. The marriage was solemnized May 6, 1942 in the Manti LDS Temple. He preceded her in death December 4, 1991.
Our mother was a woman of many talents and wisdom. She loved all of God’s creations. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony. She served her Heavenly Father in many Church callings and she especially loved the youth.
Mom was a very talented lady. She loved play writing and acting. She gave many readings in church and civic functions. She did beautiful handiwork: embroidery and crocheting. Mom filled many books of poetry which she loved to write. She shared all of them with her family, which they love and cherish. Among the many things that our mother loved to do was to chase floods whenever it rained. She also loved to hunt arrowheads. She was a wonderful cook and baker and a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her children: Karen Garcia, Washington; Zina Wiltshire, Circleville; Veldon (Jackie) Mitchell, Kingston; Elva (Paul) Nielson, Greenwich; Kirk (Barbara) Mitchell, Washington; many grand and great-grandchildren.
